“For me, Jane Birkin was the ultimate Paris cool girl, impossibly chic with a touch of bohemian. What I love about her style is that it was so simple. Whether she was wearing a white shirt and jeans, crochet dress or an all monochrome outfit, she nailed it every time. It was the right amount of elegance mixed with a breezy Parisian style. She always loved carrying a basket, too, which things would always fall out of. This was the whole inspiration behind Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas’ creation of the Birkin bag after sitting next to Jane on a flight. He saw everything tipping out, and heard from her how she needed a leather weekend bag that was stylish and practical. He began sketching the design that was turned into the bag, so we owe her a lot!
