I was smoking a cigarette on the terrace at a fashion party a couple of years ago when a former colleague I hadn’t seen in a while ambled across to me. I asked him what he’d been up to. “Well,” he said, rolling his eyes, “my boyfriend and I just got back from five days on a superyacht cruising the Amalfi Coast.” He told me a music-business client of his boyfriend had invited them. It was the first time they’d experienced anything like it. “Wow, a superyacht…” I said. “What was that like?”
